The Sacred Pool of King Taksin the Great
Before leading his army to battlefields, King Taksin the Great (1734-1782) took a ritual bath with divine water in the Secred Pool at Wat Hong. After winning the Second War of Independence against Burma in 1767, King Taksin enthroned himself as a Siamese king, and founding the Thonburi kingdom, which became the largest contiguous kingdom in Indochinese-peninsula history. His palace, called Wang Doem (meaning “the old palace”), is now Royal Thai Navy Headquarters, and is situated about 300 meters in the Northeast of Wat Hong.
The Secred Pool is 52 meters long, 12 meters wide, and 1.5 meters deep. At the bottom of the pool, there were three incantational stone inscriptions, and the water in the pool energized by the fluent-meditation and high-order Buddhism monks of Siam about 200 years ago. After redecorating in 2012, Wat Hong also collected sacred water from all provinces of Thailand, and filled the pool with those of water. Thai people have believed that whoever drink or take a bath with the water in the Sacred Pool from each corner, the success will happen as the following:
the East corner – to be the one beloved of people,
the South corner – to create auspicious business,
the North corner – to treat mental and body illness,
the West corner – to be safe from accidents or enemies.
Admission is free, and the pool is open everyday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, please contact Wat Hong’s officer at the Secred Pool of King Taksin the Great
